About Hope Science

When the founder of Hope Science, Dr. Kim Vanderlinden, was 12 years old, his mother was diagnosed with late-stage terminal cancer. Fortunately she was referred to a Naturopathic physician, Dr. Colin Skaken, who also had a PhD in chemistry. Having both a scientific, as well as a holistic/natural perspective, Dr. Skaken was able to help Dr. Kim's mother beat her terminal diagnosis. By the time Dr. Kim was in highschool, he was volunteering at Dr. Skeken's office and witnessing numerous patients overcome serious health challenges with science-based natural medicine. Inspired by his mother's journey, Dr. Kim was determined to become a physician and to integrate the best of science with the best of nature. 

The Inspiration Behind Our Name

One day, Dr Vanderlinden had a patient come in that had 3 back surgeries over 20 years and was still in unrelenting pain. The patient told Dr. Vanderlinden in front of his adult daughter that because he had been in pain for so long, that he wanted to end his life, but was just too scared to commit suicide. The doctor had him apply Active Again cream to his lower back while he asked him questions and took notes. After 10 -15 minutes the doctor noticed that the patient's eyes now had some sparkle, and so he asked the patient what was happening? The patient said that despite trying different creams and therapies, that this was the first time in years that he had experienced significant relief. This patient's experience with the Active Again cream is the foundation of why we are called Hope Science. The patient came in talking suicide and but now had hope.... Hence our name HOPE SCIENCE ... Real Hope, based on Real Science.

Dr Kim's Father's Journey: From One Block to Three Miles

Dr. Kim Vanderlinden’s father broke his heel in 5 places. For more than 15 years, his mobility was very limited. Dr. Kim just happened to be the original importer of glucosamine into Canada. Even with the researched and patented glucosamine, and together with a lot of fish oil, his dad's mobility was still very compromised, as he still could not walk more than a block or two.

As a physician who closely follows emerging research, Dr. Kim had been tracking studies on cetylated oils. When it finally became available, he had his dad try the cream and capsules, as the glucosamine and fish oils were providing minimal benefit at best. After just three days of applying the cream to his heel and ankle, his dad noticed something unexpected—as a side benefit, his hand stiffness had improved. Dr. Kim's family has a long history with pets, especially dogs. Dr. Kim was drowning when he was just 6 years old. His uncle's lab, Cindy, jumped into the water, swam out to him, grabbed him by the scruff of the neck, lifted his head out of the water, and then paddled him to shore. Cindy literally saved his life! Cindy also saved Dr. Kim's sister Janie when she was 3 years old. Janie had wandered into a corral in which there was a bull. The bull started to charge Janie. Cindy quickly ran into the corral, and ran right in front of the bull. The bull ended up running past Janie instead of through her.

Active Again seems to work just as well with pets, as it does people. So many times the feedback is that someone's dog has improved so much that they didn't have to put to sleep.
